Hi Dartmouth Residents,

We are now a week after the election, which was on April 4th, 2023. I ran for a seat on our School Committee in '22 & '23 and both times I have come in 3rd place for only two seats...so I did not win either election, but I want you to know that the connections that I have made with our town's residents, and what I have learned about myself is invaluable.  I found that many residents want and need the platform I ran on, so in the wake of my loss, I hope to advocate and help organize us to ensure that parents voices/public comments will be heard in this new administration.  We will strive to hold them accountable to use common sense to help Dartmouth students plan for "Bright Futures", and we want our schools to ensure our curriculum & instruction is "Without Political Bias", and "Transparent", which were all parts of my platform.

Below is a letter that I published on my public Facebook Page on April 5th (the day after the election results) next it is a link to my Facebook page, I am still using this Facebook page as a blog to reach out to all of you, unless I find a new and better way.  Also, you shouldn't have to be a Facebook member to view it...

Dear Supporters

I wanted to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for your unwavering support throughout my campaign. It was truly inspiring to connect with and find so many like-minded individuals who share my passion for having schools that help our children plan for bright futures, schools without political bias, and transparency for all of us.

As we approach the Easter Holiday and Spring Break, I hope that we can all take some time to recharge and spend quality time with our families. Afterward, I believe that we should consider uniting for these causes and finding ways to address these important issues together.

We don't need an elected office to make a difference for our kids, so let's continue to stay connected, brainstorm, and strategize how to fight from the ground up.

Thank you again for your support, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.

Sincerely,

Lynne Turner

Curriculum to Educate Without Political Bias &

Focus on Building Strong Fundamentals of Education Explained . . .

Basically, I think that schools need to do two things to help students succeed. First, they need to provide students with factual and unbiased information so they can learn to think for themselves and make informed decisions. Second, schools need to focus on building strong basic skills that students will need to succeed in life.

By focusing on education, schools can help students understand the world around them and develop critical thinking skills. This means providing students with information that is based on evidence, rather than promoting a particular viewpoint. It also means teaching students how to evaluate evidence and think for themselves, which can help them make better decisions in the future.

At the same time, schools need to focus on building strong basic skills, like reading, writing, and math. These skills are essential for success in many areas of life, from pursuing higher education to finding a good job. By building a strong foundation in these skills, schools can help students prepare for the challenges of the future and succeed in whatever they choose to do.

Overall, by combining a focus on education with a focus on building strong basic skills, schools can help students become well-rounded individuals who are prepared to tackle the challenges of the future.  ~From Campaign 2023

Good "Cents" for Bright Futures

As I meet with our community members on the campaign trail of running for a school committee seat, I must share a need that has been exposed. Dartmouth High School is doing an excellent job preparing our graduates for college, but in reality, not ALL students are headed for college. There seems to be a need for a practical math course in year 4, for those students not prepping for college, as well as, offering a personal finance course for those that are, as an elective. Thus, I propose that DHS consider adding a year 4, practical math course including, which would include Personal Financial Literacy, to their math requirements, program of studies.

I am running as a practical candidate planning for bright futures, and this will help ensure a bright future for everyone because personal financial literacy is an essential life skill that everyone needs to have in order to make informed decisions about their finances. Unfortunately, many people graduate from high school without any knowledge of how to manage their money effectively. This can lead to a lifetime of financial struggles and difficulties.

Incorporating personal financial literacy into our high school curriculum is not only necessary, but it is also crucial for the success of our community members. By making personal finance a part of the 4-year math requirement or as an elective, we can equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions.

Here are some reasons why personal financial literacy should be incorporated into our high school curriculum:

1. Financial literacy is essential for success: Managing money is an important skill that is necessary for success in all areas of life. Without financial literacy, individuals may struggle with budgeting, saving, investing, and making informed decisions about their future.

2. Personal finance is relevant to all students: No matter what profession a student chooses to pursue, financial literacy is a skill that they will need in their personal lives. Whether they are making decisions about student loans, credit cards, or purchasing their first car or home, financial literacy will be essential.

3. Personal finance can prevent debt and financial struggles: A lack of financial literacy can lead to debt and financial struggles that can be difficult to overcome. By teaching our students about personal finance, we can help them avoid the pitfalls of debt, including fraud, and financial mismanagement.

4. Personal finance can promote financial stability: With personal finance skills, individuals can make informed decisions that promote financial stability. This can include saving for retirement, investing wisely, and building a solid financial foundation.

In conclusion, incorporating personal financial literacy into our high school curriculum is essential for the success of our community members. By making personal finance a part of the 4-year math requirement, and as an elective, we can equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions. Let us invest in our students' future by ensuring they have the necessary financial knowledge to succeed. ~ From Campaign 2023
